ROADSIDE MONUMENTS

Bizarre as it may seem, no visit to Jeddah would be complete without a (guided) tour of the roundabouts and roadside monuments. Nearly every roundabout has one – sometimes artistic, sometimes garish and sometimes totally incomprehensible.

Must-sees include the Aeroplane Roundabout with an original Dakota mounted on white clouds, the enormous Boat Roundabout littered with boats decommissioned from the Saudi Navy and the large block of concrete with Minis embedded in – a testament to Jeddah driving, Hire a car and follow the main streets – Friday morning is the best time.
